Dobie Dichos: Camfires, Chili con Carne, and the Words of J. Frank Dobie

November 7, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Recognized by The New York Times as one of “the” events to attend in Texas, Dobie Dichos celebrates folklore, literature, and storytelling of Texas and the Southwest.

Attendees bring their own lawn chairs and sit under the stars by the campfire as they listen to invited authors and storytellers read/tell a story from one of J. Frank Dobie’s works or read/tell a piece inspired by his works. Acoustic music begins and ends the evening. A meal of chili, pan de campo, and pecan pie tassies is served.

“A quiet night, stars, a fire, chili, and the stories and folklore of J. Frank Dobie. Now that combination certainly makes for a totally Texas experience!” — Kim Lehman, Storyteller
