Dobie Dichos is a unique literary event celebrating folklore, literature, and storytelling of Texas and the Southwest. It has been recognized by The New York Times as being one of “the” events to attend in Texas.

Authors and storytellers influenced by J. Frank Dobie are invited each year to participate in the event. They read/tell a story from one of Dobie’s works or read/tell a piece inspired by his works.

Gates open at 5:00 pm to live acoustic music played from the stage. At 6:00 pm, a meal of chili (the official main dish of Texas), pan de campo (the official bread of Texas), dessert, and water are served for those who purchase meal + performance tickets. (Program-only tickets are also available.) Beer and wine are available, as well. From 6:00 – 6:45, more live acoustic music is played. The program begins at 6:50 pm. Following the program, attendees browse books available for sale, visit with the participants/authors, and enjoy the campfire while enjoying complimentary coffee, wine and dessert.

People who attend bring their own lawn chair to sit under the stars by the campfire and listen to the words of – or influenced by — J. Frank Dobie.
